THIS GAME WILL DETERMINE
Whether UAB can grab a homecoming victory and not suffer any costly injuries before entering the bye week. The Blazers face their toughest conference competition in the final four weeks of the season.
THREE THINGS TO LOOK FOR
1. Coming Back to Life. The fifth annual Children’s Harbor game is one of the best new traditions in college football as the Blazers honor former and current patients with their names on the back of UAB’s gray and lime alternate uniforms. Of the previous four games, two have been decided in the final frame.
2. Comfortably Numb. UAB is coming off its second defensive shutout of the season while Rice suffered its second offensive shutout last week at UTSA. The Blazers, along with the Roadrunners, have the two best defenses in C-USA and the former could post its third shutout of the season in facing one of the worst offenses in the nation.
3. A Great Day for Freedom. UAB and Rice will continue their conference rivalry as both programs officially accepted invitations to join the American Athletic Conference. This is the tenth all-time meeting between the schools and more are on the way as a new era begins for both teams in the AAC.
UAB’s rushing game vs Rice’s defensive front: The Blazers can make short work of the Owls if they commit to the ground attack early and take the top off Rice’s defense with play-action passing.
